* replace Contents/MacOS/Pd with Tk 8.5 Wish.app binary: /System/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/Versions/8.5/Resources/Wish.app/Contents/MacOS/Wish

* add the following to Contents/Info.plist:

<key>NSHighResolutionCapable</key>
<true/>

* change package require Tcl version to 8.5 in Contents/Resources/tcl/pd-gui.tcl

In the case of using TK 8.6, as of OSX 10.11, the highest version of TK present is 8.5. Downloading ActiveTcl from: http://www.activestate.com/activetcl/downloads and following Dans instructions above by finding the Wish.app in the ActiveTcl.dmg package prior to installation was also successful.
