This is for the three day Intro to Pd at Harvestworks in New York City.

[Pd3Day_WeekOne] - [Pd3Day_WeekTwo] - [Pd3Day_WeekThree]

Pd (aka Pure Data) is a real-time, graphical programming environment for integrated media processing. It is free software, and a closely related cousin to Cycling74's Max/MSP. It runs on Mac OS X, Windows, GNU/Linux, and even on iPods, PDAs, and as a web-browser plug-in. Pd was created by Miller S. Puckette, the creator of Max, to explore ideas of how to further refine the Max paradigm. It was designed to be as neutral as possible, with few assumptions about how things should be done. This makes it an ideal platform for integrating audio, video, MIDI, sensors, graphics, robotics, interaction, and more.

In this introductory workshop we start with the basics – what is Pd, who uses it, how do you program with it, and what is the available functionality. Participants will learn about control and timing structures, basic GUI building, and OSC communication, and also get exposure to basic sampling, filtering, and synthesizing sound, as well as basic video manipulation. You can use your own laptop, the workshop will be preceded with a short installation help session. This course will prepare you for further work in audio, video, graphics or electronics.
