This page is a place to document the progress of developing a build environment for 64-bit Windows using MinGW. You can get some ideas from the 32-bit MinGW page: WindowsMinGW.

The following guide is still incomplete

  • install the 32 bit toolchain as described in WindowsMinGW (you can skip installing libraries)

  • get mingw basic library and mingw multimedia library x64 native binaries from http://www.drangon.org/mingw/, and unpack it to C:\mingw_w64.

  • remove C:\msys\1.0\bin and C:\MinGW\bin from %PATH%, and add C:\mingw_w64\bin to %PATH%

  • edit /etc/fstab (C:\msys\1.0\etc\fstab) and replace C:\MinGW with C:\mingw_w64

  • now open the msys shell and check version:

  $ gcc --version
  gcc.exe (GCC) 4.5.2 20100804 (prerelease)
