My name is Nicolas d’Alessandro. I hold an Electrical Engineering degree from the Faculté Polytechnique de Mons (FPMs) since 2004. I did the master’s thesis in the Faculty of Musique of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) (supervisor: Caroline Traube). That work gathered the development of applications based on perceptual analogies between guitar sounds and voice sounds, and a study of mapping strategies between hand-based gestures and speech production models such as source/filters and concatenation (more details in related section).
I started a PhD thesis in September 2004 in the TCTS Lab of the FPMs (supervisor: Thierry Dutoit) related to the real-time control of content-based models synthesizers (more details in related section). That thesis was first supported by the SIMILAR Network of Excellence (FP6, EU). Then I was accepted as a FRIA researcher (FNRS federal funding) in December 2005, to continue that work. Anyway, I keep intense collaboration with the NoE (especially during eNTERFACE workshops) on topics related to human-computer interfaces. I also continue the partnership with the UdeM on perceptual analogies, through the LIAM laboratory.
