partconv~ is an external that implements partitioned fast convolution, suitable for convolving input signals with long impulse responses for reverbs, etc. This release offers much improved performance, as well as independence of the partition size and your patch's blocksize. It includes Altivec code from Chris Clepper. There's also some SSE 1 code that produces almost correct results but doesn't seem to improve performance. This is a view of the almost finished user interface - in this case, a movie is being played in render chain 0. Please note the controller assignments (upper left, the "/in/mov/..."-thingies) - in this case, the movie is advanced one frame each time a beat in the music is detected. Additionally, scratching can be done by using the pitch bend controller of the midi controller. A nifty thing are the controllers in the upper right corner of the window. These control the alpha value of the pictures produced by each render chain - basically, you can fade in and out each renderchain seperately, based on a certain threshold value. It's a bit like r*solum* :-)

The simile, simile~ and framescore~ objects implement windowed similarity comparisons in a variety of ways. simile compares two numbers with an error window. If the two numbers are identical it outputs a 1. If the difference between them is the same as the error window it outputs 0.5. it is a 1/x exponential curve, so that values from 0.5 to 1 represent ever closer inputs within the error window, and values < 0.5 represent ever more distant inputs. The second outlet gives the direction of difference (sign) from i2 to i1 so that sign=1 if i2<=i1 and sign=-1 if i2<i1. simile~ implements the simile algorithm as a dsp object. A third outlet presents an overall score for each block, which when divided by the blocksize gives an average simile value for each signal vector. framescore~ takes this process a step further, so that simile comparisons are weighted according to instantaneous signal values, and the overall weighted average is scaled to lie between 0 and 1. framescore~ may be used to compare alpha values from an rfft~ -> cartopol~ pair, and so implements a block-by-block comparison of instantaneous timbre.
